What Roman Emperor ordered the census at the time of Jesus’ birth?

Correct! We are told in Luke chapter 2 that Caesar Augustus gave the decree for the census.

It would be well for us to remember once again the true meaning of Christmas. For our few moments in meditation, let’s consider the angels’ visit to the shepherds nearly two thousand years ago.

You remember that while David was keeping the flocks, he was called to be king over God’s people. It was while Moses was keeping the flocks that God appeared to him with tidings for the deliverance of Israel out of Egypt. Now to these shepherds came tidings of great joy which will be to all people. We observe that the good news was not brought to the chief priests, but to the shepherds whose hearts were ready to receive the good tidings of great joy.

Let heaven and earth rejoice! For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior who is Christ the Lord. Jesus is the Christ, the Messiah, the Anointed, and the Savior of each one of us who accepts Him as our Lord and King. If He reigns in our hearts, Christmas has a very special meaning for us. We know that when Christ fills our hearts with the love, the hope, the joy, and the peace that form the true spirit of Christmas, we can truly join the heavenly host praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men!”
