Pastor Greg Laurie Named Honorary Chair of 2013 National Day of Prayer
Pastor Greg Laurie, general editor of “Start! The Bible for New Believers”, has been named Honorary Chair of the 2013 National Day of Prayer. Laurie is senior pastor of Harvest Christian Fellowship in Riverside, California and Harvest Orange County in Irvine, California. He also leads Harvest America, one of the largest evangelistic events in American history.
Laurie is a featured speaker of the nationally syndicated radio program “A New Beginning,” broadcast on more than 650 radio stations around the world. He also hosts a weekly television program on the Trinity Broadcasting Network and has appeared on numerous other television news programs. He has written more than 70 books and serves on the board of directors of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association.
“Start!” is a resource for new Christians discovering their faith and for seasoned Christians wanting to reconnect to their faith. “The purpose of the Start Bible is to make the Word of God accessible to people,” said Laurie. “It’s not how you mark your Bible, it’s how your Bible marks you. The ‘Start!’ Bible is accessible, friendly, understandable, and when you apply the truths found within it – life changing.”
On May 2nd, the 2013 National Day of Prayer is asking participants to pray for America referencing Matthew 12:21, “And in His name Gentiles will trust” (NKJV), as the day’s Scriptural foundation. Laurie will deliver a special prayer he has written that will be simultaneously read throughout the nation at noon (EDT).
“We don’t need to make the Bible interesting; it already is interesting. It already is powerful; and as the Scripture says itself, ‘sharper than any two-edged sword,’” said Laurie.
Available in multiple formats and bindings, including an upcoming mobile app, “Start!” is helping bring people around the world closer in their relationship with God.

One Perfect Life is The Complete Story of the Lord Jesus
Nashville, Tenn. (March 12, 2013) – No other figure in history has had a more significant impact. The life of Jesus Christ—as documented in the four, independent, historical testimonies of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John—demonstrates perfection. Pastor, teacher and best-selling author John MacArthur presents the Gospels as one cohesive narrative, providing a powerful and profound composite picture of Christ, God and Man in his new book, One Perfect Life: The Complete Story of the Lord Jesus ($29.99, ISBN 9781401676322). A story so plainly laid out in its entirety for the reader, it causes the Gospels to be read with a fresh clarity and drama that cannot be gained by jumping back and forth between the four books.
Examining the gospel accounts from the New King James Version (NKJV), One Perfect Life is a comprehensive, easy-to-understand story of Jesus’ time on Earth. “It is a devotional tool that encourages the believer to be enraptured by the story of Jesus. It is a study tool, designed to help readers see the chronological flow of Christ’s life. The end result of this harmony is the best news the world has ever been given, about the most significant life in all history, Jesus Christ,” says John MacArthur.
As a bonus, the One Perfect Life eBook ($34.99, ISBN 9781401676339)—released simultaneously with the print edition—includes the entire New King James Version Bible text as an appendix. Every book, chapter and verse entry in the text is hyperlinked to the corresponding Scripture text.
“Throughout my ministry, when preaching through a gospel narrative, I would always draw in the relevant passages from the other Gospels in order to complete the picture and tell the whole story. It was when I came to the end of Mark’s gospel that I decided the best way to put the story of our Lord together was by producing a harmony that represented what I had done in my preaching for forty years,” says MacArthur.
One Perfect Life was written to deepen the readers confidence in the trustworthiness of the Bible. From Genesis to Revelation, MacArthur notes references made about Christ throughout the Scripture. Using the provided study notes with each section, readers will be drawn into a more meaningful worship and discovery about the glory of the Savior who was, and is, and is to come.
“In addition to strengthening the faith of the believer, this book demonstrates that there are no contradictions in the Gospels. These four separate records can be reasonably harmonized, proving that any alleged discrepancies exist only in the minds of unbelieving critics, and not in the actual texts themselves. When all the details from all accounts are known, the full story is clear and divine authorship affirmed,” MacArthur continued.
Senior Pastor Steven Lawson endorses the book by saying, “Drawing from a deep well of preaching Christ for a half-century, this preeminent expositor has provided the church with a soul-stunning, breathtaking view of the person and work of the Lord Jesus that leaves us bowed low at His nail-pierced feet. Simply put, here is MacArthur at his best—clear, concise, penetrating, profound and most of all thoroughly Christ-centered.”

March 12, 2013Thomas Nelson’s newest Bible translation is now offered for free on BibleGateway.com
Celebrating its 20th year online, Bible Gateway kicks off 2013 by adding a new voice to its multiplying list of available Bible translations. “The Voice,” the newest Bible translation introduced to the market in late 2011 by Thomas Nelson, Inc. has received hundreds of endorsements from pastors, ministry leaders, Bible readers and faith seekers from all over the world.
“The Voice” experience has grown in popularity among active, private and cultural Christians everywhere. “The Voice” appeals to its audience with its unique dialogue written in screenplay format, allowing readers to step into the story of Scripture. The reaction by readers to this translation’s format was Bible Gateway’s initial attraction to bringing “The Voice” on board.
“We fell in love with the concept of ‘The Voice’ and its desire to reach the average reader,” said Rachel Barach, General Manager of Bible Gateway. “After noticing that overwhelming reviews were coming from scholars, pastors, ministry leaders and the everyday Bible readers, we knew it fit Bible Gateway’s mission.” Bible Gateway’s effort to provide free Scripture for all who want a better connection with God’s Word made “The Voice” a natural resource for the site.
Bible Gateway, one of the largest Christian websites in the world, currently hosts more than 160 different translations in over 70 different languages. As the site and mobile app continue to grow, Bible Gateway now averages over 100 million unique visitors per year.
“I was so impressed with ‘The Voice’ from the moment I first experienced it personally, ”said Chip Brown, senior vice president and publisher for HarperCollins Christian Publishing.“Everybody I know that reads 'The Voice' is passionate about how it brings the Scriptures alive for them. Readers on Bible Gateway have been asking for 'The Voice' and we are pleased to honor their request."
Bible Gateway users can engage with “The Voice” in a number of ways to expand their Bible reading. In addition to making the full Bible text available on the site, “The Voice” will introduce several reading plans throughout the year, beginning on February 13th, in celebration of Lent and Easter. On February 21st, Bible Gateway will launch “The Voice” daily Bible verse newsletter for email subscribers.
“The Voice” is the result of a unique collaboration among scholars, pastors, authors, poets, musicians and other artists. The 120-member team translated each word of Scripture into a story that is faithful to the original Greek and Hebrew text, easier to understand and conveys the beauty and timelessness of Scripture.

What is {thrive} and how did it come to be? I wish I had some fancy, exciting impetus to tell you about that led to the origins of {thrive}, but I don’t. It is an idea that has been percolating in my mind for years… ever since I first started leading Bible studies. And the reason I started leading Bible studies was because I looked around and thought, “Hey. This is what’s going on in my life, and here’s what I feel like God has been saying to me about it.” No grand, lightning-bolt encounter. No earth-shattering event. Just a steady longing in my heart.
That isn’t to say there isn’t a story behind it. God’s Word has always had a pretty important place in my life. My mother recalls the four-year-old me that would loudly “preach” while standing on a rock outside my grandparents’ condo. (Their neighbors really loved that.) One Sunday when I was in fifth grade I saw other kids in my apartment complex playing on the playground and thought they needed Sunday School, so I called them over and started telling them the story of the Creation and the Fall. I will never forget Nick, who prayed to ask Jesus into his heart a couple weeks later.
As a preteen I remember getting my first Bible. Ok, it wasn’t my actual first Bible—but it was the first one I felt like was “for me.” It was a teen Bible and I distinctly remember sitting in my room one night not long after getting it at youth group, and feeling what even then I recognized as a spiritual hunger. I read almost the entire book of John that night.
As a seventeen-year-old college freshman and religion major I was heartbroken at some of the things my peers were living through and wanted them to know Jesus loved them. That led me to write out simple thoughts about how the Bible applied to those things. Eventually I got to tell groups of students what I was learning.
While my heart was in the right place, what I didn’t always realize was that God didn’t just want me to show others how His Word applied to their lives and situations. More importantly, He wanted to completely transform my own life. I got pretty good at exegesis and translating Greek, but I didn’t always allow God into the wounds in my life. For a couple years I lost myself in teaching the Bible to others and loved it, but often neglected to allow the Holy Spirit to do His work on my own broken heart.
As a seminary student I took a class called Biblical Hermeneutics. It encompassed everything I had always loved about studying the Bible. As I was learning about biblical genres and how to interpret Scripture, I realized that there was no reason everyone who loves Jesus can’t know all these things. I couldn’t think of one good reason for the everyday woman to not know how to read, study, and interpret Scripture for herself. Why should she wait for someone else to tell her what it says? By this time in my life I had begun to allow God into some spaces of my heart that had been badly fractured, and had begun the hard work of healing from past abuse. The technicality of Scripture collided with the transforming power of Scripture inside me. The stories and verses I had always clung to started to look like a reality in my life and not just a bright hope for tomorrow.
This is when {thrive} started materializing in my mind, though it didn’t have a name at the time. I began to think, what if there were resources written by women who had been there, been in the trenches of life and fought through the muck and mire? Women who were not plastic, shiny versions of the ideal Christian woman but real, organic, and maybe even a bit scarred. And what if those women had experienced God in such a transforming way through His Word that they could come alongside others and show them how completely relevant this good old Book really is? I liked the implications of these what-ifs.
Slowly but surely God dropped me into conversations and situations where I met women who fit those what-ifs. When I described my heart’s desire, it was like we all breathed a sigh of relief at finding someone else who was singing from the same page of music. And now, here we are—a little chorus of voices looking for those who will sing with us to the great glory of God the Father and His Son, Jesus Christ.
These other women are smarter and more qualified than I am to tell you about {thrive}, and I hope you’ll join us as we all tell our stories together in the coming months and years. What we hope to offer you are transformative, interactive books and group experiences designed to empower you not to just survive but thrive, encouraging you to immerse yourself in the Scripture and the person of Jesus Christ. The authors of {thrive} are a collaborative circle of women from all walks of life seeking after the heart of God, and we hope you’ll join us on the journey.
Ashley Linne is a lover of God, lover of people, wife of @linne, mom, Bible study writer/editor/producer, singer, teacher, aesthete, and Oxford Graduate School grad. She is also one of the authors of the {thrive} book series.

February 01, 2013Bestselling author and humorist Jon Acuff and Michael Tait, lead singer of Newsboys have added their voices to the chorus of praise for the innovative new Bible translation,The Voice. They join a roster of scholars, pastors, and writers who’ve been favorably impressed with its beauty, style, and theological grounding. Acuff, author of Stuff Christians Like, loved how personal and intimate The Voice made the Bible. “Stories I'd read a hundred times jumped off the page!” he said.
The translation’s ability to make Bible stories “jump off the page” is a refrain that resounds in many of the endorsements received by the publisher of The Voice, Thomas Nelson, Inc. Newsboys singer Tait says, “It brings to life...the Word of God.” Author and pastor Pete Wilson says, “The Voice is the first translation that has made me audibly say ‘Wow.’ It’s fresh, enlightening and extremely accurate.”
Comments received about The Voice echo appreciation for its faithfulness to the original text, and for how it conveys the beauty and timelessness of Scripture. Many praised the exquisiteness of the translation: “The Voice Bible is a choral masterpiece,” says scholar and author Leonard Sweet. “If you want to walk in the beauty and majesty of Scripture, start here!” says Mark Denison, Senior Pastor, First Baptist Church, Conroe, Texas.
Women of Faith speaker and popular Bible teacher Lisa Harper comments, “The fluid, relevant format of The Voice is a great reminder that the Bible isn't a text book or a rule book but a divine love story. As a Bible teacher, I also appreciate the fact this is a translation instead of a paraphrase, which means it's both readable AND theologically reliable. The bottom line is, I think The Voice is the bomb!”
Thomas Nelson, Inc.’s research among Bible readers and pastors found that nearly two-thirds of the people who have seen it liked The Voice better than their current Bible. Like the notable people whose comments are featured at http://www.hearthevoice.com/responses, they responded warmly to a fresh way to experience Scripture.
Completed this year after seven years of work, The Voice is the result of a unique collaboration among scholars, pastors, authors, poets, musicians, and other artists. Their “dynamic translation” approach attempts to capture the unique literary quality of each book of the Bible.

“The Sisters in Faith Bible is the perfect Bible for a Divinely Inspired Victoriously Anointed DIVA woman who desires a closer relationship with God and a better understanding of how faith relates to every area of life. It represents a sisterhood I want to be a part of!”
- Sheryl Lee Ralph, actress
Thomas Nelson, a world leading Christian publisher, is preparing to release a new Bible that will provide African-American women with an important and inspiring new tool to help bring their Sunday morning experience into their everyday lives. The Sisters in Faith Holy Bible: Encouraging and Empowering African-American Women with God’s Truth ($39.99, ISBN 9781401675158) is expected to address the concerns of today’s Christian women who are seeking God’s wisdom and guidance in every area of their busy and complex lives. The Bible will be available January 1, 2013 in stores and online.
This beautifully designed Bible will have a unique African-American perspective, thanks to executive editors Michele Clark Jenkins and Stephanie Perry Moore. Michele and Stephanie are the co-founders of Sisters in Faith, an entity established to create meaningful products that encourage and empower African-American women with God’s truth, and address the needs and concerns of life that are particularly challenging to the women in this culture.
“African-American women have a different history and a different presence from any other demographic,” said Jenkins. “Their history is characterized by strength in the face of instability; making a-way out of no-way and self-definition in the face of a lost identity. A substantial number of African-American women are working mothers and oftentimes single mothers. Most are looking to cut a new path. The Sisters in Faith Bible is designed to speak directly to the specific needs of this group of women.”
“African-American women have long suffered and long loved the Lord in such a way that being Christian and being an African-American woman is synonymous,” adds Moore. “But very few Christian products reveal the African-American woman’s voice to the body of Christ and almost none have been created to speak directly to her in a way that relates to her life and her struggle. This will be a journey to awaken a new and dynamic spirit for these women.”
Jenkins is the Senior Director of the Public Policy Consulting Group for Griffin & Strong, P.C. and also specializes in entertainment contracts and business development. She is the author of numerous faith-based books and co-editor of several Bible projects. Moore has also served as co-editor for several Bible projects and is the author of over fifty young adult, inspirational fiction books and four adult titles.
Together, they have gathered twelve women– who live in different areas of the country, and are experiencing different ages and stages of their lives, relationships and careers– to contribute to this project. Joann Rosario Condrey, a recording artist, worship leader and ordained evangelist; Helen Delaney, co-pastor at Liberty Church in Marietta, Georgia; Vanessa Davis Griggs, a motivational speaker and author of more than thirteen novels; Keren Heath, a writer, entrepreneur and worship leader; Tiffani-MiShelle Johnson, a poet, actor, screenwriter and director; Jennifer Keitt, author, host of Today’s Black Woman radio show, and founder of Zakar magazine and the Jennifer Keitt Life Institute for Women; Jamell Meeks, Director of Women’s Ministries for the Salem Baptist Church of Chicago; Brenda Noel, an award-winning freelance publishing professional and partner in ECHO Creative Media; Dawn Sherill, M. The Sisters in Faith Bible is a sister-to-sister guide through the Word of God that demonstrates how the Word is active and practical for every part of life, including a sister’s interaction with God, herself, her family members, her career and co-workers and others. Featured sections will include:

These fifty devotionals address topics such as church, prayer life, parents, marriage, divorce, children, accountability, forgiveness, jealousy, friendship, trust, leadership, stress management, money, organization, work ethic and many more.
Quest and Discovery—questions and answers that address some of life’s most difficult situations head-on and the truth in the Scripture that makes rising above the challenges of life seem attainable.
She Speaks—inviting, first-person accounts that allow the reader to look at life through the eyes of the women in the Bible, as they relate to the joys, sorrows, victories, and defeats of these sisters from long ago.
Notes to Self—fifty snippets of wisdom that include Biblical insight, the supporting Scripture, and a personal resolution to challenge and encourage the reader.

September 07, 2012Ministry Bible Continues Finding Its Way to Those in Need
Thomas Nelson, Inc. announced today that more than seven million copies of the God’s Word in Action Ministry Bible have been distributed worldwide.
First published in 2005, the God’s Word in Action Ministry Bible was designed as a resource for ministries. The idea behind the Bible was to provide an affordable resource churches as well as individuals could give away.
“When it was first published we hoped to distribute one million copies,” said Gary Davidson, sr. vice president and Thomas Nelson Bible group publisher. “In fact, we originally called it the Million Bible Challenge Bible. To see it now have more than seven million copies distributed confirms that we are helping spread His Word.”
Available in case lots as well as individual copies at book stores, the Bible is priced at $2.99 and often is sold for only $1.00. The widespread availability and affordable price has aided this Bible in finding its way into the hands of people who otherwise wouldn’t be able to experience God’s Word. From small villages in Africa and South America to use in prison ministries the God’s Word in Action Ministry Bible has helped to change lives.
“The God’s Word in Action Ministry Bible serves the core of why our Christian retail partners exist,” said Tom Knight, sr. vice president of Thomas Nelson sales. “It is a resource that helps them achieve their mission and equip the churches in their communities to achieve theirs.”

Thomas Nelson joins the NKJV translation with the Award Winning Glo Bible platform to create new apps for iPad and iPhone
Bible Publisher Thomas Nelson and digital Bible maker Immersion Digital announced today that they are coming together to launch three new apps for iPhone and iPad that will pair the trusted New King James Version (NKJV) Bible translation with the award winning Glo Bible engine.
The new apps include The NKJV Study Bible, The MacArthur Study Bible and theNKJV Bible App, available today in the US & Canada App store for iPad and iPhone. Built upon Glo Bible's digital platform, these new Bible apps include 360-degree virtual tours, photos, animated maps, videos, social features and Bible reading plans.
“In this digital age with two entire generations born in a digital world it is crucial to have our best Bible translations and Study Bibles in digital format. Not by merely mimicking paper but by exploiting the full potential of digital media to communicate the Bible in new and engaging ways. The NKJV and its study Bibles are hallmarks favored by millions of readers,” said Nelson Saba, founder and CEO of Immersion Digital
Thomas Nelson powered by Glo apps allow users to access any Bible chapter or verse in just two clicks. Every page of the Bible features relevant videos, artwork, photos, and virtual tours, resulting in an interactive experience that gives users the full 360-degree view of the Bible. The entire Bible and related media are also organized through unique browsing "Lenses," allowing users to sort and search the Bible in a variety of ways.
“The introduction of these new NKJV powered by Glo Bible apps will give current and future generations the ability to experience God’s Word in ways they never have before,” said Gary Davidson, Thomas Nelson senior vice president and Bible group publisher. “We are excited about offering the New King James Version translation as well as the immense study notes and insights found in The NKJV Study Bible and The MacArthur Study Bible alongside the media-rich Glo platform. The potential for expanding Bible readership and sharing scripture through these apps is amazing and we are thankful that our partnership with Immersion Digital is making this possible.”
The new Bible apps also include the "Me" Lens, which contains a journal and Bible reading plans. This lens also gives users the capability to connect to social networking sites such as Facebook or Twitter, integrating relevant posts so users can see what their friends are sharing from the Bible.
The New King James Version (NKJV) app is available now for FREE in the app store. The New King James Study Bible and The NKJV MacArthur Study Bible apps are available for an introductory price of $19.99USD. Study Bibles will also be available as in-app upgrades for NKJV Bible app users or existing Glo Bible users. Glo users can also get the NKJV translation in-app for $0.99USD.
Thomas Nelson apps and in-app upgrades are currently only available in the US/Canada.
